Offered for your consideration is this beautifully preserved Montblanc N° 252 piston-filling fountain pen from the 1950s, presented in its particularly attractive Bordeaux / Burgundy Red finish.
The N° 252 was the first model in Montblanc’s new slip-cap line, representing an important departure from the traditional screw-cap construction of the company’s earlier fountain pens.
Its clean post-war proportions, streamlined slip-on cap and distinctive wing nib give it an unmistakably mid-century appearance, while the rich Bordeaux colour makes the present example considerably more striking than the more frequently encountered black version.
The cap is crowned by Montblanc’s iconic white snowflake emblem, providing the instantly recognizable finishing touch to an otherwise elegantly restrained design.
One of the defining characteristics of the N° 252 is its original wing nib, whose broad architectural form integrates particularly well with the streamlined design of the pen.
The Fine point has a pleasantly semi-flexible character, responding naturally to changes in writing pressure and providing modest expressive line variation while remaining comfortable for everyday handwriting.
The combination of the responsive nib, balanced proportions and piston-filling mechanism makes the N° 252 not merely an attractive vintage Montblanc, but also a particularly enjoyable writing instrument.
The N° 252 is equipped with Montblanc’s piston-filling mechanism.
This Montblanc N° 252 remains in exceptional Near Mint vintage condition.

The partnership that would develop into the Montblanc Pen Company was founded in 1906 by businessman Alfred Nehemias and engineer August Eberstein, together with silent associate Claus-Johannes Voss.
From a small workshop in Hamburg’s Schanzen district, the young firm initially operated as a subcontractor, manufacturing fountain pens and components for other companies.
An important turning point came with the arrival of banker Max Koch, whose investment enabled the partners to establish their own corporate identity in 1908 as the Simplo Filler Pen Company.
Their first important model, the Rouge et Noir, appeared in 1909. It was followed in 1910 by the pen whose name would eventually become that of the company itself: Montblanc.
The first writing instrument bearing the Meisterstück name was introduced in 1924, establishing a designation that would become synonymous with Montblanc’s finest pens. A decade later, the company introduced its first piston-filling fountain pens.
During the post-war years, Montblanc increasingly embraced a cleaner and more modern design language while continuing the craftsmanship, sophisticated filling mechanisms and distinctive nib designs upon which its reputation had been built.
In 1977, Montblanc was acquired by Dunhill. Today the company forms part of the Richemont Group alongside such prestigious maisons as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Vacheron Constantin and IWC.
Produced during this important post-war period, the present Bordeaux N° 252 represents an especially attractive expression of Montblanc’s transition toward modern fountain-pen design. Its early slip-cap construction, distinctive semi-flex wing nib, uncommon rich colour and exceptional state of preservation make it a particularly desirable example for the vintage Montblanc collector.
